Woodworking is a fantastic outlet for children's natural creativity. Each day in the three day series will involve creating a unique project to take home. The learning focus will be on the safe use of hand tools, woodworking and painting skills. Kids will learn how to replicate a design, cut out the pieces with a European fret saw and a hand drill, and confidently assemble and embellish their projects with child-safe acrylic paint. Each child will make a decorative piece (ie, a tulip), a person mobile (they can bring a small photo of their own or another face, if desired), and a wooden flip paddle game. An apron or paint shift is recommended.
Lis Laustroer or "Mrs L" is a talented and creative woodworker with years of experience teaching children the joys of woodworking. She received her first fretsaw at age 10 and has been going strong since. She trained as early childhood educator and kindergarten teacher in Germany, and taught children woodcraft for more that a decade through Guelph Parks and Recreation. She focusses on safety and nurturing children's creativity.
